Tactics: Poster Design, Event Branding

Event promotion requires clarity, personality, and restraint all at once. Each campaign must communicate quickly while still inviting curiosity. My work in event branding and poster design reflects that balance — bold enough to stand out, intentional enough to support the organization behind it.

For the Hickory Nut Gorge Chamber in Lake Lure, North Carolina (home of “Dirty Dancing”), I developed promotional materials for Lake Lurau, a luau-themed community celebration designed to bring families together around local culture. The visual direction leaned into the event’s signature pig parade and tropical energy, pairing playful illustration with structured layout. The result was an award-winning poster design that felt vibrant and welcoming while remaining polished and cohesive within the Chamber’s broader identity.

The CCSD Dance department chose a their signature funderaiser as a Dance-a-thon. The poster had to gather the interest of bored teens who had high aesthetic standards. But mostly, it had to convey FUN.

For the City of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, I was commissioned to create a campaign concept for the annual Chamber Expo. The poster concept integrated symbols of food, music, and community using the Chamber’s established color palette. While another direction was ultimately selected for final production, the concept demonstrated a strong foundation in event branding and graphic design — clear hierarchy, engaging composition, and a visual system adaptable across formats.

Across these projects, my role as a graphic designer and illustrator was not simply to decorate events, but to create visual systems that elevate community experiences. Whether civic, cultural, or purpose-driven, effective event branding builds recognition, encourages participation, and leaves a lasting impression.
